 Temperature controlled containers, normally referred to as reefers, can be provided in standard sizes of 20ft and 40ft or larger, if required. Most reefer containers are all electric in that they require externally provided power. In addition to these all electric units, Cargostore supplies diesel electric units for special applications. These self sustaining units have a diesel powered generator mounted within the ISO frame. Such diesel electric units are favoured for transport on trains or where other forms of power are unavailable. Cargostore supplies both types of equipment – all electric principally to mainstream shipping companies and diesel electric to post disaster relief non governmental organizations or other special project applications.
Where an external power source is preferred for transit, two principal formats of generator are available. A clip on or nose mount unit fixes to the front upper part of a reefer container. These units can be lifted with their host container either from trailer to trailer or from trailer to railcar or from railcar to ground. The second option is an under mount unit which is attached to the trailer. This application is preferred by operators which require regular access to the genset or where the trailer is used extensively or exclusively with reefer containers and the operator can allocate a dedicated fleet to hauling temperature controlled cargo.
